Complicated grief often occurs in response to a loss that is sudden, violent or out of order. All too often people with complicated grief are misdiagnosed and treated for simple depression and/or substance abuse. Although alcohol, drugs or depression medications might take the edge off, until they address the grief issues, they will really not feel much better.
