There are as many different approaches to recovery and mental health counseling as there are counselors. Over time though, certain techniques emerge as being especially helpful. In this day and age of immediate gratification and hurriedness, mindfulness is one of those techniques. When was the last time you actually stopped and smelled the roses, actually tasted every bite of what you were eating, or really paid attention to how you felt? It has probably been a while. Our culture encourages people to make snap decisions at the expense of considering all of the options. Mindfulness encourages you to take time to identify your feelings, notice your sensations, think through the consequences of action (or inaction) and then and only then, make a personally informed decision.
